[Mattoon, IL] – As work progresses towards the opening of the Toledo Neal Center YMCA, the Mattoon Area Family YMCA has undergone staff changes to better serve both communities.
Wendy Baker, formally the Senior Program Director, will now serve as the Associate Executive Director. In her new role, Baker will oversee the programs and membership at the Mattoon Y and act as the liaison between the Mattoon and Toledo YMCA. She is looking forward to leading her staff to serve both the Mattoon and Toledo communities. Baker adds that she is “excited to see the Mattoon YMCA expand to two YMCAs and ultimately become one family.”
Angie Patrick, who has worked as Member Engagement Director, working on both marketing and membership, will now focus solely on membership. As the Membership Director, Patrick notes the change will allow her the opportunity to “create activities for our members, increase awareness of our Membership for All program, work within our community to create an effective Worksite Wellness program and improve the overall member experience by spending time with members and listening to their needs.”
As Patrick transitions into focusing on membership, Jessica Killough, formerly the Sports Coordinator, has moved into the role of Marketing Director. In this role, Killough will focus on marketing programming and events for the Mattoon and Toledo YMCAs to current members, as well as community members who may not yet be members of the Y. Killough hopes to bring more awareness to the programs offered at the YMCA stating, “The Y is more than a gym; we offer such a variety of programs, in addition to being a place for community members to gather together; it is my hope that as Marketing Director I am able to communicate these opportunities to enjoy both the Mattoon Area Family YMCA and the Neal Center YMCA.”
Sarah Dowell, will transition into the role of the Community Programs Director. In her role, she will oversee the Homeschool program, STRIDE, and various community events including the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Healthy Kids Day, Run for the Bagel, and Turkey Trot. She will continue to serve as the Girls on the Run East Central Illinois Council Director, which serves Coles, Douglas, Effingham, Moultrie, Piatt, Shelby and, most recently, Cumberland County. Dowell is most excited about the opportunity to serve her community, develop partnerships, and grow and expand the Girls on the Run council in Cumberland County.
New to the YMCA is Beau Scott, who is the new Sports Coordinator for both the Mattoon Area and the Toledo Neal Center YMCA. Beau has a long history with the Mattoon YMCA and has been active as a member and an instructor prior to starting with the Y. As the Sports Coordinator, Beau is “excited to work with two things I love; sports and our YMCA athletes.” He looks forward to working in both Mattoon and Toledo to grow both the youth and adult sports programs.
