According to the Mattoon Police, MPD arrested Paul M. Livingston, 44 years of age and homeless in Mattoon, for the offense of Criminal Trespass to Residence, Disorderly Conduct, and Aggravated Assault to a police officer. The arrest occurred on 07/21/2016 at 11pm in the 1400 block of Lafayette in Mattoon. Upon arrival, police were met by a neighbor, who pointed out an apartment house basement Mr. Livingston had just walked into. Police were allowed into the basement by the apartment landlord, who reported Mr. Livingston was trespassing there, adding that the basement is not even a living area of the apartment house. Police approached Mr. Livingston to ask him to leave, at which time Mr. Livingston allegedly threw a crate he had been using to defecate in at the officer.
