Top Democrats in the Senate want a delay in the confirmation vote for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh over sexual assault allegations. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley should push back a vote to advance the nomination until the allegations can be investigated. The Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hold a vote this Thursday. The top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee Dianne Feinstein also believes the vote should be delayed. Feinstein referred the matter to the FBI last week after receiving a letter detailing the allegations.
A Washington Post article revealed the accuser as Palo Alto University professor Christine Blasey Ford. Ford claimed Kavanaugh held her down and groped her while they were in high school in 1982. Ford thought Kavanaugh “might inadvertently kill me. He was trying to attack me and remove my clothing.” Kavanaugh has denied the allegations.
