The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for Lawrence-Crawford-Jasper-Clark-Richland-Cumberland-Clay-Effingham counties until 4:45pm this afternoon (Thursday, February 7)
* At 1041 AM CST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain that will cause flooding is continuing across southeast Illinois. Up to 1.5 inches of rain has already fallen this morning.
* Some locations that will experience flooding include… Vincennes, Effingham, Olney, Robinson, Flora, Lawrenceville, Marshall, Newton, Toledo, Sumner, Casey, Altamont, Teutopolis, Greenup, Oblong, Palestine, Martinsville, Louisville, Clay City and Watson.
This includes the following highways… Interstate 57 between mile markers 143 and 168. Interstate 70 between mile markers 79 and 154.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying spots.
Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you can do so safely.
A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.
