HUD Picks Company To Demolish Cairo Housing Complexes
(Cairo, IL) — The decrepit Elmwood and McBride public housing complexes in Cairo will be gone by the fall. HUD yesterday announced a company out of southern Illinois will tear down the rotting government housing units. HUD closed the two projects after years of local mismanagement and inattention that left most of the apartments unliveable.
