Early investigation by Illinois State Police in regards to Thursday, June 11th’s fatal crash along I-57 north at Milepost 183 indicates the following thus far:
Five vehicles were at a complete stop due to backed-up traffic from an earlier accident near milepost 188. An oncoming vehicle failed to slow down striking the rear of a Chevy Malibu then striking a truck-tractor semi trailer. The trailer then entered the left lane which in turn caused a chain reaction. The driver of the Chevy Malibu has been pronounced deceased (name being withheld until next of kin is notified), with another driver taken to the hospital for injuries. Names of those involved are being held anonymous at this time as the investigation continues.
Update from The Coles County Coroner’s Office:
The Coles County Coroner’s office has confirmed three people died in multi-vehicle accidents on I-57 yesterday. One of the deceased is Andrzed Poprawa, of Palm Coast, Florida. The names of the other two people have not been released.
