Illinois Capital Development Board Selects Design Firm for Renovations at Quincy Veterans’ Home

QUINCY – The Illinois Capital Development Board (CDB) and the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs (IDVA) today announced Veterans United Constructors, a joint venture between Alberici Constructors, Inc. and River City Construction, LLC, has been selected as the preferred architectural design and construction firms for the design and construction of the new nursing home and domiciliary at the Quincy Veterans’ Home. The $230 million project, funded by Governor Pritzker’s bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital plan, will provide high-quality, skilled care to Illinois veterans and their spouses. CDB will oversee the project’s design and construction in accordance with the protocol for state-appropriated capital projects.

“From the Army to the Air Force to the Navy to the Marines to the Coast Guard to the National Guard, we know how important our service members are to the security and well-being of our nation – and it’s my mission that Illinois will provide every possible support for our military men and women, their families and our veterans – those who have made sacrifice upon sacrifice so all of us can live free,” said Governor JB Pritzker. “With this $230 million project into the Quincy Veterans’ Home, made possible by the bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital plan, veterans will have access to world-class care and facilities.”

The project includes upgrades to buildings, infrastructure, utilities, and landscaping to support the new facilities and campus. In addition to the infrastructure improvements and upgrades, there will be demolition of various existing buildings, and renovation of the Neilson Dining Facility for stores and multi-purpose space. The new 250,000 square foot residential long-term care building and approximately 65,000 square foot independent living building will be completed under the design-build delivery method.

“CDB is committed to ensuring quality capital projects are delivered on schedule and within the budget. The project will position the Quincy Veterans’ Home to maximize its potential to benefit Illinois veterans,” said CDB Executive Director Jim Underwood.

“The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs is excited to work with the Capital Development Board on this significant project to rebuild and improve the Quincy Veterans’ Home,” said Acting Director Peter Nezamis. “This important commitment to the Quincy Veterans’ Home will ensure cutting-edge care for not only today’s veterans but for generations to come and will provide important quality-of-life enhancements for our residents.”

“This benchmark of architect selection is a crucial point to moving forward with the massive renovations taking place at the Quincy Veterans’ Home. When I sponsored the Quincy Veterans’ Home Renovation and Rehabilitation Act in 2018, we were facing the emergency of a Legionnaire’s disease outbreak and, moved as quickly as possible to save the lives of the heroes residing there,” said State Senator Jil Tracy. “While those projects continue, the additional $230 million provided from the Rebuild Illinois capital bill to build a new nursing home and domiciliary is a tremendous asset to the veterans and their families who receive care at the Quincy campus, the largest veterans’ home in Illinois.”

Ignoring the issue leads to a negative impact on the health outcomes of the residents. I am thrilled to know the State is continuing its commitment to our American service members by constructing a new nursing home facility and domiciliary at the Quincy location. “I had the honor of serving on the selection committee which recommended Veterans United Constructors to be the preferred firm to design and build new facilities for the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy,” said Quincy Mayor Kyle Moore. “This world-class design will ensure generations of heroes will continue to get the quality of care they deserve right here in Quincy.
