Gov. Pritzker Announces Four Appointments to Illinois Boards, Commissions and Councils
Building on a strong team of diverse experts in their fields, Governor JB Pritzker announced the following appointments in his administration:
CHILDREN AND FAMILY SERVICES ADVISORY COUNCIL
Kim King will serve on the Children and Family Services Advisory Council.* King currently serves as the Senior Deputy Director of Case and Volunteer Management for Illinois Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Cook County, and previously served as the Deputy Director of CASA. Through her work with CASA, King has utilized her experience in child welfare to guide practitioners in the field, providing training to program directors, employees, and volunteers statewide. King has also worked in the Office of the Cook County Public Guardian, representing children in juvenile court and foster care. King received her Juris Doctor from Chicago Kent College of Law and her Bachelor of Arts from Northeastern Illinois University.
COMMISSION ON DISCRIMINATION AND HATE CRIMES
Channyn Parker will serve on the Commission on Discrimination and Hate Crimes.* Parker is the Director of Strategic and Community Partnerships at Howard Brown Health, where she develops and implements diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives for the organization. She previously held roles in Education Research and Advocacy, and External Relations for Howard Brown Health. Prior to her work at Howard Brown, Parker served at the Broadway Youth Center, Cook County Department of Corrections, and the Chicago House Social Service Agency. Throughout her career, Parker has worked on behalf of the LGBT community. She has served on the boards of Equality Illinois, the Transformative Justice Legal Project, and the University of Chicago LGBTQ Board of Diversity and Inclusion.
EMPLOYMENT SECURITY BOARD OF REVEW
Deborah Hagan will serve on the Employment Security Board of Review.* After nearly 40 years of service to the State of Illinois, Hagan recently retired from her position as Secretary of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Hagan previously served as Consumer Protection Division Chief and Assistant Attorney General at the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. In her role as leader of the Consumer Protection Division, she advanced and defended the interests of Illinois consumers in critical areas such as mortgage origination and servicing, student loan servicing, debt collection, identity theft and other areas of financial risk. Hagan has played a critical leadership role in many groundbreaking settlements on the state and national level, helping to recover billions of dollars in restitution for victims of consumer fraud and other wrongful conduct. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Dayton School of Law and Bachelor of Arts in political science from Miami University.
STATE BOARD OF INVESTMENT
Michael Tarnoff will continue to serve on the State Board of Investment.* Tarnoff retired in 2015 as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago, a position he held for 36 years. Under his leadership, he created and implemented a system that enabled the Federation to finance more than 20 buildings in excess of $200 million for its initiatives through tax-exempt bonds. He continues to serve as a consultant to the Federation and many other 501(c)(3) charitable organizations. Tarnoff has served on the boards of Michael Reese Health Trust, Howard Area Community Center, Ness Healthcare and First Nonprofit Insurance Companies. He is also Founder and Chairman of Make Every Vote Count. Tarnoff received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
