ABOUT DRU HILL
The multi-platinum recording artists of Dru Hill are excited to announce the merging of its members with the dynamic duo from Hip-Hop/R&B group, Playa, for its sixth studio album. Now, comprised of Tamir
“NOKIO” Ruffin, Mark “SISQO” Andrews, Antwuan “TAO” Simpson, Jawann “SMOKE” Peacock, and Benjamin “BLACK” Bush, the newly joined quintet is poised to take the soul genre by storm!
“While Jazz is working on solo endeavors, it only made sense to come together with our brothers,” says the now five-member supergroup, “Not many people know this, but we met way back in 1998 when we all played the Ladies Night Out tour and Playa was a trio. We’ve been family ever since. But when we stepped on that stage with Dru Hill… as one group… for the first time this year, it was instant magic. We knew right away that this was where we all belonged.”
Fans will get to hear the special configuration of the group on their upcoming album, The Second Coming, executive produced by Grammy award-winning writer/producer Troy Taylor of Songbook Entertainment this fall.
Taylor has worked with an array of different artists, from Whitney Houston to Mary J. Blige and now brings his amazing talent to this groundbreaking new project. The album was produced on the group’s signature label, Dru Hill Entertainment, and will be distributed by Empire Distribution.
Dru Hill first rose to fame in 1996 with their debut single, “Tell Me” and went on to release a string of back-to-back hits like “Sleeping in My Bed,” “Never Make a Promise,” “We’re Not Making Love,” and “How Deep.” Most recently, last Christmas, they expanded their legendary music catalog with the release of their highly anticipated holiday EP, Christmas in Baltimore, which rapidly climbed the charts
over the course of its brief six-week run. Playa is best known for their smash hit, “Cheers 2 U,” released on Def Jam Recordings in 1998 when the group was a trio, featuring Grammy award-winning SMOKE, BLACK, and STATIC MAJOR (born Stephen Garrett), who passed away in 2008. Over the course of their career, the group has written and produced chart-topping hits with iconic artists like Jodeci, Aaliyah, Timbaland, Ginuwine, Lil’ Wayne, Drake, and Chris Brown. In 20 years, Dru Hill has sold over 40 million records worldwide. And even as they gear up to release The Second Coming, they are also preparing more exciting surprises for 2019.
ABOUT TWISTA
Life’s best surprises often come from unlikely places. Twista knows this better than most. The pioneering platinum rapper put Chicago on the rap map and made the double-time rap style a rap staple. Despite selling millions of albums and popularizing a delivery incorporated by everyone from Jay-Z to Eminem, the Windy City rapper remains largely unheralded by the uninformed.
From the first time Twista rapped, people wanted to hear him do this. He broke through in the early 1990s as Tung Twista, earning acclaim as the fastest rapper in the world, even holding the Guinness World Record title for the distinction. But it would take a while for people to catch up to Twista’s trailblazing rap abilities. When he reemerged in 1996 with Do Or Die on the landmark “Po Pimp” single, the rechristened Twista amazed fans and critics alike with his remarkably smooth rapid-fire raps. Twista then became a rap king with the release of Adrenaline Rush, his 1997 album. The collection’s mind-bending vocal performances, terrific storytelling and supreme lyricism placed Twista among rap’s premier artists.
“I think I helped offer in a new vibe, a new style to what we already had in hip-hop and rap music,” he explains. “Even though you had a few people dabbling in it, the level that I took the double time style to helped contribute to there being another style that you could do your music.”
Twista became even more popular in 2003 and 2004 when he teamed with fellow Chicagoan Kanye West and Jamie Foxx for the smash single “Slow Jamz.” Twista’s 2004 album, Kamikaze, earned him his first Multi platinum plaque. Since then, Twista has remained one of rap’s premier practitioners and in-demand collaborators. He’s appeared on albums from Mariah Carey, Pitbull, Lady Gaga, Usher and Jay-Z, among others, and released a string of albums and mixtapes. Since then, Twista released a string of successful singles, highlighted 2009’s gold single “Wetter,” as well as 2013 single “Make a Movie” featuring Chris Brown.
But for Twista, it all comes down to the music. It’s the reason he’s remained one of rap’s top talents for two decades. “It’s the love of the music,” he says. “I do other things and I have other business ventures that I do, but my love is really with the music.
