Apex Clean Energy and Coles Wind Award Latest Round of Coles County Community Grants
Coles County, IL – October X, 2022 – Apex Clean Energy and Coles Wind have awarded the most recent round of grants as part of the Coles Wind Community Grant Program. The grant program is one way that Apex contributes to pressing community needs and makes a meaningful impact at the local level. These funds are allocated to support programs that serve Coles County through economic development, environmental sustainability, education, and health and recreation. During this cycle, $5,000 in funds were distributed to Mattoon Community Unit School District 2 for its Leaders Innovating for Tomorrow (LIFT) program.
The LIFT program is a state-of-the-art regional innovation and technology center. The program offers central Illinois–based high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to develop leadership skills and gain valuable, hands-on experience in different career pathways: HVAC/green energy, manufacturing and construction, culinary arts, communications, childcare, information technology, and leadership. Focusing on individualized and project-based learning, LIFT encourages students to align their academic studies with their career interests, which sets them up for success in the post-graduation world.
“This funding will help students all over the area through our new LIFT program,” said Dan Compton, LIFT’s HVAC/green energy facilitator. “It will specifically help us purchase a miniature wind turbine, photovoltaic cells, and other equipment so that students will be ready for the clean energy jobs of tomorrow.”
“This grant is important for schools throughout the region,” added Tim Condron, superintendent of Mattoon Community Unit District 2. “We appreciate Coles Wind and other businesses that help students explore interests and LIFT their future. Donations like these can truly be life-altering for students and our community.”
The goal of the Coles Wind Community Grant Program is to fund projects and programs that build healthy communities. Grant dollars are limited; Coles Wind awards local grants on a quarterly basis.
