Eastern Illinois University Partners with ELEVATE to Launch Digital Trades Pilot Program

Eastern Illinois University (EIU) and ELEVATE CCIC, Inc. in Mattoon are proud to announce an innovative partnership aimed at boosting digital literacy and creating new career opportunities in the regional tech sector for EIU students, alumni, employees and the entire Coles County community. The Digital Trades Pilot Program will leverage Google Career Certificates to provide valuable skills training to selected participants.

Program Highlights
● EIU is sponsoring 15 one-year scholarships to ELEVATE’s Google Career Certificates program
● Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to complete up to two career certificates
● Participants will receive comprehensive career coaching and job placement assistance upon completion of their scholarship.

“This collaboration represents a significant step forward in our commitment to preparing students for the digital economy,” said Jay Gatrell, President of Eastern Illinois University. “By partnering with ELEVATE and utilizing Google’s cutting-edge curriculum, we’re opening doors to high-demand careers in technology for our students, alumni, employees and neighbors.”

The Google Career Certificates program offers professional training in fields such as IT Support, Project Management, UX Design, and Data Analytics. These certificates are designed to equip learners with job-ready skills in less than six months, with no degree or experience required. Evan Kubicek, Interim Executive Director of ELEVATE, added, “We’re thrilled to work alongside EIU in this endeavor. Our goal is to bridge the gap between education and employment, providing participants with not just knowledge, but also the practical skills and support needed to launch successful careers and startups with digital trades.”

Upon completion of their chosen certificates, participants will benefit from ELEVATE’s extensive network of employer partners and receive tailored assistance in securing relevant job opportunities.

This pilot project underscores both EIU’s and ELEVATE’s dedication to fostering a skilled workforce ready to meet the evolving demands of the digital age. It also aligns with broader initiatives to promote digital literacy and create pathways to well-paying jobs in the technology sector in the Midwest and across the nation.
