Shift: Sunday-Thursday 3pm-1:30am, with availability to work additional hours and weekends based on coverage needs
Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring the safety of the workplace for both office and plant personnel on a daily basis. This position will work closely with several other departments (including but not limited to maintenance, production, and office) without having direct control over these areas. In addition, this position will utilize others in the plant to assist with safety throughout the facility. Strong organization, collaboration, teamwork, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills will be required. Must be willing to work flexible hours. The incumbent must be a team player in order to be successful.
Primary Responsibilities
Safety
- Design, implement, and enforce safety procedures and regulations and reduce the risk of accidents
- Review work procedures verifying compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Communicate regularly to all employees any changes in regulations or procedures
- Strong partnership with Facility, Security, and Production Managers making sure any safety concerns are addressed
- Conduct safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, identify corrective actions, and implement follow-up assessments
- Work with other managers to select individuals throughout the plant to serve on the safety committee and first responders within the facility
- Conduct quarterly meetings with safety team members reviewing processes and training on safety compliance policies/programs
- Audit all new equipment verifying proper installation and work processes on that equipment confirming it meets safety expectations
- Audit work procedures routinely verifying safety is being followed and recommending improvements when issues are noted
- Collaborate with management to develop, update, and implement emergency action preparedness plans
- Maintain building and personal safety compliance and procedure manuals
- Verify required signage is posted and in good condition
- Conduct safety drills which review both cover and evacuation events
- Serve as the primary contact for injuries and incident notification and case management
- Investigate what occurred, looking for any corrective action to implement
- Provide First Aid/CPR as needed
- Personally transport any employee requiring further treatment if an ambulance is not necessary
- Maintain a written log of injuries and report tracking metrics, applying findings
- Assist OSHA or any other agency with safety audits
- Maintain, manage, review, and file required reports

- File work comp claims timely and accurately
- Work closely with the insurance company reviewing and answering any questions or assessments
- Attend quarterly review calls staying up to date on programs of all claims
- OSHA
- Maintain OSHA 300 log throughout the year ensuring it is complete and accurate
- Annually file and post OSHA 300 report in a timely manner

Training
- Conduct and take ownership over safety training of all employees, current and new
- Attend new hire orientation meetings presenting safety-related items
- Prepare documents or visuals, review, and present Annual Safety Training
- Maintain a written log of safety training
- Coordinate, develop, implement, and oversee all trainings verifying regulatory compliance
- Equipment training
- Forklift training required every three years
- Lock out/tag out
- Other trainings as required for the industry
- Maintain personal development and EHS skills
Other
- Work with other Safety Managers developing, auditing, and improving safety policies
- Act as a back-up to Safety, Facilities, and Security team members
- Other duties and special projects as assigned
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field
- Minimum of 3-5 years in a safety-related role in a manufacturing environment with supervisory/management experience a plus
- Must have knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards as it applies to safety and compliance and work comp experience
- EMT or EMR trained or willingness to gain EMT or EMR licensing
- Strong team player with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to lead a team
- Ability to work with others without direct supervisory control; possessing critical thinking and problem-solving skills allowing for decision-making and quick action
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- English and Spanish speaking is a plus
Physical Demands
- Must be able to work at a computer for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift 15-20 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to stand and walk around the plant for extended periods
- Will require bending, lifting, and twisting
- Must pass background check, drug screen, and physical
Working Conditions
Working conditions are normal for an office and manufacturing floor environment. Work requires extensive use of a computer. Responsibilities may require early arrival/late departure, off-shift weekdays, and weekends in response to workload
