For Immediate Release – Press Release
Federal Law Enforcement Union Endorses Rodney Davis for Congress in 2022 Election
(Greenville, IL) – Local 1304 of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Council of Prison Locals 33 is announcing their endorsement of Rodney Davis for Congress in the 15th District. David Clark, President of AFGE Local 1304, made the announcement in a May 24 letter to his members.
Local 1304 represents over 200 federal correctional workers in Bond, Fayette, and Madison counties who work at Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Greenville, which is a medium security federal prison. Local 1304’s endorsement of Rodney follows endorsements from 19 current and former Illinois sheriffs and the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) State Lodge.
“I’m proud to be the law and order candidate in this race. That’s why I’ve been endorsed by so many federal, state, and local law enforcement officers. Correctional workers, including those at FCI Greenville, have a tough job. They are a critical part of our criminal justice system. That’s why I’m a strong advocate for correctional workers and all law enforcement officers in Congress. Thank you to the members of Local 1304 for your support!” – Rodney Davis, Republican candidate for Congress in IL-15
From President Clark’s letter to members of AFGE Local 1304:
May 24, 2022
AFGE Local 1304 Members,
As you know, there is a major election happening in June. While every member of the U.S. House of Representatives may be in tight races our district’s primary has a major race happening. This will have vast implications on the representation that AFGE 1304 and FCI Greenville will receive with our recently redistricted District 15.
U.S. Representative Rodney Davis (R-IL) has been a strong ally in the U.S. House of Representatives for federal correctional workers, and today I want you to know that the AFGE Local 1304, and it’s over 200 bargaining unit employees, will be endorsing him for re-election in Illinois’ 15th District. Congressman Davis has showed up when it counted, visiting FCI Greenville to see the important work we do and hear firsthand from our members about the issues we face, including staffing cuts, augmentation, and proposed cuts to our pay and retirement benefits. Time after time, Congressman Davis has stepped up to the plate for federal correctional workers. Congressman Davis has also supported our key legislative priorities in the past, including voting for the Eric Williams Correctional Officer Protection Act (pepper spray), which became law in 2016, the Defending Public Safety Employees’ Retirement Act (TSP fix), which became law in 2015, and the Lieutenant Osvaldo Albarati Correctional Officer Self-Protection Act (gun lockers, which became law in 2018. Congressman Davis is a founding member of the Bureau of Prisons Reform Caucus, attempting to hold the Bureau of Prisons accountable for appropriated monies. Congressman Davis is also a current co-sponsor of the Thin Blue Line Act and Eric’s Law. Congressman Davis has had our back, and we want him to know that we have his.
In Solidarity,
David Clark
President, AFGE Local 1304
FCI Greenville, IL
