IL Freedom Caucus statement on federal injunction blocking Pritzker’s gun ban law
Springfield, IL – The IL Freedom Caucus is issuing the following statement on Southern District of Illinois Judge Stephen P. McGlynn’s decision to place an injunction on the enforcement of the so-called Protect Illinois Communities Act because the law will likely by ruled unconstitutional.
“The injunction will protect citizens from being harmed while the court battles surrounding this law continue to move forward. Judge McGlynn is correct in his assessment that this new law will at some point be ruled unconstitutional. The architects behind this blatant attack on our Second Amendment Rights knew from the outset the law would not hold up in court, but they went ahead and passed it into law anyway.
Instead of unfounded attacks on honest gun owners, we should be focused on implementing meaningful solutions such as increasing – not decreasing – law enforcement budgets and prosecuting criminals who commit crimes with guns. The idea that we are going to stop violent crime by targeting honest citizens is laughable. It is time for serious ideas and serious solutions not clown show legislation that will never be enforced because our Constitution won’t allow it.”
The Illinois Freedom Caucus is comprised of State Representatives Chris Miller (R-Oakland), chairman; Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City), vice-chairman; Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich); Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville); Dan Caulkins (R-Decatur); Jed Davis (R-Newark) and David Friess (R-Red Bud). The members of the Illinois Freedom Caucus are members of the Illinois General Assembly who are advocating for limited government, lower taxes and accountability and integrity in government.
