Following a run with his all-star Hollywood Vampires, Alice Cooper starts his next round of North American shows, kicking off as the support act for The World Tour with Def Leppard Motley Crue on August 5 in Syracuse. Cooper and his band will play eight stadium shows as part of that package, and though the shock rock veteran is a headliner himself he tells us that he has no problem opening the shows: “That's fine. I don't care. I don't care when we go on. We're gonna do our show nonmatter what. I'm way past the ego thing of, 'Oh, we have to go on last,' that whole bit. We're gonna do our show. Tommy Lee recently said something that was really funny. He said, 'The worst thing you can ever do is have Alice open for you.' I thought that was a great, nice compliment.”
Cooper, of course, was Motley's chosen support act during its 2014-2015 farewell tour. At its announcement a big deal was made about the band signing a binding contract stipulating Cooper could behead them with his guillotine if they ever toured again. He says the Crue has not asked for any special dispensation.
The World Tour continues on Tuesday, August 8 in Columbus, Ohio and runs through Aug. 18, with one last date Nov. 13 in Melbourne, Australia.
Cooper, meanwhile, will be releasing a new album, “Road,” on Aug. 25 and begins a Freaks On Parade Tour with Rob Zombie on August 24 in Dallas.
Cooper currently has shows scheduled until Oct. 28. Earlier this year he released deluxe editions of his 1971 album Killer and 1972's School's Out, as well as a remastered version of 1973's “Billion Dollar Babies.”
He's released two singles — “I'm Alice” and “White Line Frankenstein,” featuring Tom Morello” — from Road.
